We are ecstatic to share that the Bike Borderlands collaborative is DOUBLING – including destinations in New York for the first time – and we are launching a Strava challenge to celebrate.
The eight new networks include:
They join our current Bike Borderlands networks Kingdom Trails (VT), Craftsbury Outdoor Center (VT), PRKR Mountain Trails (NH), Franconia Area NEMBA (NH), Coös Cycling Club (NH), Inland Woods and Trails (ME), Carrabassett Valley Trails (ME), and Circuits Frontières (QC). Check out the Destinations page to get the details on them all.
Member Networks are Non-profit Organizations with Varied Histories and a Wide Range of Riding Levels.
“Some of the members have been around for 30-plus years and others are just starting,” said Joe Fox, Outdoor Recreation manager at the Northern Forest Center, who coordinates the collaborative. “Their trail networks range from 15 miles of trail to more than 100 miles. Some have full-time staff, and some rely on volunteers. Some are chapters of the Vermont Mountain Bike Association or the New England Mountain Bike Association, and others are stand-alone entities. But they all are committed to sharing knowledge and working together to promote a sustainable mountain bike culture.”
The expanded group collectively stewards hundreds of miles of trail and will collaborate on marketing, advocacy, and ensuring high-quality, sustainable trail experiences.
“BETA is excited to be recognized as the stewards of a mountain bike trail system worthy of inclusion in Bike Borderlands,” said Glenn Glover, executive director of Barkeater Trails Alliance (BETA). “We look forward to working together with these premier organizations to strengthen trail networks across the northeastern US and southern Quebec.”
Summer Strava Challenge Encourages Riders to Visit all 16 Networks
The Borderlands virtual challenge will be hosted on the popular fitness tracking site Strava and offers tiered gifts based on the number of networks visited. Participants who visit all sixteen member trail networks will be entered into a drawing for our grand prize – a collection of swag, guest passes, and local treats from each network and their community.
To enter, join the Bike Borderlands Strava group at www.strava.com/clubs/bikeborderlands. The contest will run from June 20 through September 22. The rules are simple:
- Join the Bike Borderlands club on Strava
- Each time you visit a Bike Borderlands network for the first time between June 20th and September 22nd (Not your first time ever… your first time this summer!), tag our group in the comments.
- We will tally your visits at the end of the season and award tiered prizes based on the number of networks you visited.
- Participants agree to let us use photos shared with the club in Bike Borderlands social media and other media
“This growth represents a significant milestone in the collaborative’s evolution and furthers our mission to support local economies, foster environmental stewardship, encourage physical activity, and connect communities through trails,” Fox said.
